Two Weeks of SimRacing Roguelike: Over 3,000 Runs and a New Online Leaderboard

Just under two weeks ago, the first version of SimRacing Roguelike was introduced here. It’s time for an initial evaluation and a look at the new online leaderboard, as well as the other features that have been added since then.

Over 3,000 runs and more than 150 successful careers in the first two weeks

The response in the first two weeks or so has far exceeded expectations. During this time, more than 3,000 career runs have already been started in SimRacing Roguelike. Over 150 of these runs ended successfully with a victory in the World Tour and the title of World Champion. The Android version has also been well received. The game has now recorded nearly 100 downloads on the Google Play Store. In addition, the web version has been viewed more than 1,500 times. It’s particularly encouraging that, on average, each time the game is opened, it leads to more than one run being started. This means many players try again right away after a loss.

The current overall success rate stands at around six percent, which is exactly within the originally targeted range of five to ten percent. The path from a simple beginner’s rig to becoming World Champion remains a real challenge, but it is certainly achievable with the right strategy, targeted training, and well-considered hardware upgrades.

The following hardware favorites can also be identified based on the anonymously collected game statistics:

  • Steering wheels: MOZA FSR2 Formula Wheel
  • Wheel base: Fanatec Podium DD (25 Nm)
  • Pedals: MOZA mBooster Active Pedal

The New Online Leaderboard

To add some excitement to the game, SimRacing Roguelike has been expanded to include an online leaderboard. There, you can post your best runs and compete directly with other players. Participation is entirely optional and must first be enabled via the opt-in option in the settings menu.

Your username and the helmet design you’ve chosen are linked to your game profile and can be changed at any time. If you no longer wish to participate in the online leaderboard, you can disable the feature at any time and delete all online entries linked to your profile. Your local statistics, achievements, and save data will remain unaffected.

Additional Updates Since the Launch

However, the new online leaderboard is by no means the only change since the launch. Over the past two weeks, numerous new features have been added and existing sections have been revamped. The focus has been primarily on customization, ease of use, and a more reliable racing simulation:

  1. Verified Online Leaderboard: Players of the web version and the Android app can post their results on a shared online leaderboard. Submitted runs are verified on the server side.
  2. Helmet Customization: You can now customize your driver’s helmet with different designs, colors, and visors.
  3. Unlockable Helmet Elements: Additional designs, color combinations, and visors are unlocked by successfully completing careers with the various driver types.
  4. Revamped Driver Selection: The choice between Hotlapper, Safe Finisher, and Late Braker has been made clearer and now highlights each driver’s strengths and weaknesses more distinctly.
  5. Encrypted Save File Backups: Statistics, achievements, local leaderboard entries, player name, and—if desired—your online identity can be backed up and restored in an encrypted file.
  6. Improved Menus and Career End Screens: The main menu, settings, leaderboard, and loss and victory screens have been visually and functionally revamped.
  7. More Accurate Winning Odds and Race Simulation: The displayed winning odds are now based on 5,000 simulated races. At the same time, the internal race calculation has been standardized and made more reliable.
  8. Numerous Improvements for Mobile and Android: Touch controls, leaderboard display, dialogs, back navigation, and usability on small screens have been further optimized.

What happens next?

Your feedback is especially important for the game’s future development. It helps us improve the game’s balance, find bugs, and tailor upcoming features to your preferences. Feel free to share your experiences, requests, and suggestions for improvement on our Discord server or directly in the comments below this post. Even brief updates on how far you’ve gotten or what causes your runs to fail most often are helpful.

Among other things, we’ve already planned limited-time special events with their own challenges and separate leaderboards. At select events, small prizes might even await the top-ranked drivers. More information will follow as soon as the first events are finalized.
