SPC Rearview Mirror – Virtual Mirror Software for Sim Racing

While many simulations allow you to adjust the camera angle and use virtual rearview mirrors, it’s usually not possible to show a specific portion of the screen on an additional display. This is exactly where SPC Rearview Mirror comes in. The software is manufacturer-independent and simply captures the desired area of the Windows desktop. This makes the software ideal for use on displays to show a virtual rearview mirror.

The Main Window

The main window is divided into three clearly separated sections that cover the entire workflow. The active game and vehicle profiles are displayed at the top. Below them are the area selection and preview functions. In the lower section, you can select the desired output mode and start mirroring. The status bar continuously displays whether a profile is loaded, which area is being recorded, and whether output is active. Errors related to the USB connection or file loading are also displayed there.

One image area – three output options

Regardless of the selected mode, the same recording area saved in the vehicle profile is always used. This makes it possible to switch between windowed, full-screen, and VoCore output at any time without having to select the area again.

  • Windowed: The selected area is displayed in its own window. This window can be freely moved, resized, or displayed without a border. The position and size are saved in the vehicle profile.
  • Full Screen: SPC Rearview Mirror displays the selected section without a border on a separate target monitor. The source area and target monitor can be set independently of each other.
  • VoCore Screen: Compatible VoCore displays are connected directly via USB. The device does not need to be set up as an additional Windows monitor for this.

The Area Selection Window

Area selection works across the entire virtual Windows desktop. You do not need to select a source monitor beforehand. After clicking Select Area or Edit Area, the desktop dims slightly. A brief instruction appears on each connected monitor. This makes it immediately clear that you should drag a rectangle with the mouse and then confirm your selection by pressing the Enter key.

  1. Click Select Area.
  2. Use the mouse to draw a rectangle on any connected monitor.
  3. Press Enter to confirm the selection or Escape to cancel it.
  4. Select Windowed, Fullscreen, or VoCore USB as the output mode.
  5. Click Start Mirroring.

The operating instructions are displayed on every connected monitor during the selection process. Monitors located to the left of or above the main screen with negative Windows coordinates are also supported. An existing selection can be moved afterward or scaled at its edges and corners. The area is saved in absolute Windows coordinates and reloaded the next time the vehicle profile is launched.

Live Preview and Area Preview

The Live Preview displays the saved capture area directly in the main window. The aspect ratio is preserved, and the preview uses the set target FPS. The Area Preview feature displays a permanent red frame at the actual capture position. This frame is click-through and does not block any programs or controls beneath it. When mirroring begins, Live Preview and Area Preview are automatically turned off. This prevents an unnecessary second capture path from being created and ensures the red frame is not accidentally included in the recording. The two preview functions serve different purposes: Live Preview checks the actual image content, while Area Preview makes the position and size of the capture area visible directly on the desktop. This allows you to verify a configuration without having to start a full recording just yet.

Profile Manager

The built-in Profile Manager organizes categories and their associated profiles clearly in two columns. The left column is used to manage categories, which can represent games, simulators, or other purposes. The right column contains the freely nameable profiles for the selected category. Search fields make it easier to navigate larger collections, while double-clicking directly applies the desired profile. Profiles can also be easily moved to a different category using drag-and-drop. You can also create and edit hotkeys and assignments for individual programs here.

When you delete a file, it is not removed immediately. The delete button first turns red and its label changes to confirm. Only a second click actually deletes the file. Using the import and export functions, you can back up the entire profile library as a ZIP file or transfer it to another computer.

Settings

The settings are divided into two columns. On the left are the general options, the target FPS, the image filters, and the global hotkeys. The right column contains the settings for Windowed, Fullscreen, and VoCore. This keeps the general image options and the properties of the various output modes clearly separated from one another.

For windowed and full-screen output, you can choose between maintaining the aspect ratio and the Stretch to Fill option. Additionally, options for smoothing, sharpening, contrast, brightness, and gamma are available. The changes are saved in the central Settings profile.

Direct VoCore output

SPC Rearview Mirror detects supported USB displays and, when multiple devices are connected, allows you to select the desired VoCore. Clicking Refresh reloads the list of compatible devices. You can then specify the specific display, its hardware resolution, rotation, scaling, and brightness. The brightness setting is transmitted directly to the hardware, while the image brightness affects only the displayed image content.

  • Support for all current VoCore models and resolutions
  • Rotation by 0, 90, 180, or 270 degrees
  • Keep Aspect Ratio or Stretch to Fill
  • Optional swapping of the red and blue color channels
  • Hardware brightness from 0 to 100 percent (usable range varies)
  • Display of the actual VoCore FPS being transmitted
  • Black screen when mirroring stops

System requirements

SPC Rearview Mirror is designed to consume very little system resources. During normal operation, it requires only a small amount of RAM and CPU power. It processes only the selected portion of the screen and does not rely on complex 3D graphics, telemetry analysis, or background services. This leaves sufficient resources available for the actual racing simulation. On a modern system, SPC Rearview Mirror typically requires less than 1% of CPU power and about 50 MB of RAM. Since only the selected screen area is processed and no resource-intensive background services are running, nearly all of the system’s performance is available for the racing simulation.

You will need:

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11
  • Approximately 150 MB of free disk space. No additional .NET libraries are required, as all necessary components are already included in the application.
  • A properly installed libusbK driver is required to use VoCore screens (Link)

Download

Here you’ll find the current download link for the software. SPC Rearview Mirror is currently provided without a commercial code-signing certificate. As a result, Windows may display a message saying “Unknown publisher” when you first launch the program. After verifying the download, you can start the application by clicking “More info” and then “Run anyway.”

Since this is a portable, self-contained version, no traditional setup is required. Settings and vehicle profiles are saved in the user’s Documents folder and are therefore retained even if the program file is replaced. If needed, the saved vehicles can also be backed up via the corresponding menu item and imported again later.
