iRacing Price Increase – Prices increased by up to 14%

In the world of sim racing, prices are actually becoming more affordable, especially when it comes to hardware. iRacing, however, is going against this trend and will be raising subscription prices for its rental software by up to 14 percent starting August 18. Whether this price increase is justified is currently the subject of heated debate within the community.

Subscription prices are rising

Starting August 15, iRacing will increase subscription prices by 11.8 to 13.46 percent, with shorter subscription lengths being affected by a higher percentage increase. The company cites new features and the expansion of free content to 25 tracks and 30 vehicles as the reasons for the increase. Even though the arguments are generally understandable, there are certainly counterarguments to be made. After all, a significant portion of the development work has been and will likely continue to be funded by the very fees that are now being raised. Furthermore, much of the free content is not part of the simulation’s standard service. To speak of a meaningful use of the simulation without additional content is therefore an mockery of the loyal users, some of whom have invested several thousand euros in the simulation over the years. New users, too, must realize that the monthly fee is not the only cost.

We do not take this change lightly and recognize that rising costs have affected everyone. Since our last increase, the value of an iRacing subscription has grown substantially, with hundreds of new features, expanded functionality, and a base package that now includes more than 30 cars and over 25 tracks.

We’ve also significantly increased our investment in development, with dozens of new and exciting features in the works, including a proprietary new graphics engine and single-player Career Mode.

Our goal has always been, and will continue to be, to make iRacing accessible across a wide range of budgets. All of our new features and racing opportunities are included with every subscription at no extra charge. We’re excited to provide even more value in the years ahead with so much in the works.

Promotions for New Customers and Black Friday Deals

Regular promotions will continue on the iRacing website, and the Black Friday sale in particular will most likely continue to offer the highest discounts (in the past, up to 50% for new customers). In addition to the regular offers for new customers, the best way to try out iRacing is with an annual membership, which is offered through many local motorsports clubs. In Germany, for example, you can get one for an additional 10 euros when you apply for the sim racing license, which costs 15.50 euros.. Discussions within the community – What do you think?

Opinions in the community are deeply divided. Many users are frustrated by the price increase and are particularly critical of the combined subscription and pay-for-content model. This model seems expensive and inflexible, especially since there is no true offline mode. Supporters, on the other hand, emphasize the quality of the competitive online racing (top-notch matchmaking, safety rating, variety of formats—Formula, NASCAR, oval, dirt, etc.). They argue that this justifies the price, since there is no real alternative.

“Nothing comes close to iRacing when it comes to serious multiplayer”; “Unbeatable for ovals and special events like the Indy 500—I’m happy to pay for the quality.”

“I pay for a subscription and then extra for content that I lose if I cancel—fuck that”; “LMU offers almost the same thing for GT3/Sports Cars for a lot less money.”
