End of an Era: Fanatec Discontinues CSL Elite McLaren GT3 V2
Fanatec has unexpectedly announced the end of a true classic. The popular CSL Elite McLaren GT3 V2 will no longer be sold. It was one of the best-selling steering wheels in recent years. It was introduced in 2020 as the successor to the McLaren GT3 V1 and was the first steering wheel for many Fanatec users. This will leave a big gap in the product range.
The McLaren GT3 Steering Wheel
The first version of the McLaren GT3 Wheel was unveiled in 2018. At the time, it was one of the most advanced steering wheels on the market and one of the few licensed products from a car manufacturer. Features such as the integrated display and analogue paddles, which were also popular with sim racers with disabilities, were exceptional for this price range right from the start.
Two years later, the extra-wide McLaren GT3 V2 was introduced and has since been sold in unchanged form (except for the QR) through Fanatec’s official shop.
Discontinued Sales and Alternatives
The sale of the wheel via the Fanatec webshop has been discontinued with immediate effect and the product pages are no longer accessible. Fanatec itself has issued the following statement on the matter:

We know this wheel means a lot to our community, and it’s meant a lot to us, too. For many sim racers, the McLaren GT3 wheel was a milestone in their journey towards enthusiast racing hardware.

Fanatec currently offers a wide range of steering wheels. However, the discontinuation of the McLaren GT3 V2 will leave a gap in the manufacturer’s product range – especially in the entry-level segment. There are currently still some remaining stocks of the steering wheel available at partner shops, but these are likely to sell out quickly.
